Pops of Red

Recently I’ve been asking myself so many questions. What excites me? What brings me joy? What are my interests? What do I actually like? What do really want to do? Who the heck am I? And the list of questions goes on and on. Some questions are bigger, more meaningful than others, but all still very important to ask ourselves. I’ve even started saying them out loud and sharing that I’m questioning everything. It’s been super vulnerable, raw and honest, but freeing, eye opening and reminder that we are not alone in our thoughts/questions, no matter how big or small we might think they are.

One of the more fun questions I asked myself recently as I cleaned out my closet was…what is my style/who is the ‘me’ I want to reflect in my clothes? The reality is being influenced by our favorite fashion influencers is real (not a bad thing at all), but I think I lost a sense of self trying to emulate others.

The Creative Pragmatist article Color is a Language explains it beautifully: “Many of you know now that the source of frustration in your closet, or when shopping, has not been driven by lack of choice. Rather, it’s been a bit of a mind fuck undoing what you’ve learned, understanding who you are, and how to articulate that visually through your personal style. You know that being “boxed” into certain tropes is incredibly frustrating, it handicaps creativity and your ability to express yourself without being labeled as chaotic and all over the place (even if it’s just you doing the labeling).”

So in an effort to bring myself back into my wardrobe, here is how I would define my personal style:

  • easy & effortless (all of the dresses please)

  • touches of feminine (bows, florals, softer fabrics, gold accents, feminine silhouettes)

  • pops of color (neutrals will always be in my wardrobe, but I realized I love color, especially red, and missed these pops)

Pops of Red from J Crew

J Crew has been perfection the last few years and I’m loving the pops of red and the fun patterns for spring and summer (polka dots, stripes, strawberries!).

Style, In the Wild

We celebrated my cousins bridal shower this past weekend and I wore this fun Anthropologie dress. It was the epitome of how I define my style (easy & effortless, feminine and a pop of red!). It will be a spring/summer staple for sure.
