The One Word I have Removed from My Vocabulary in Order to Take Continuous Action.
How often do you use the word trying?
Do you believe the word trying actually means you gave it your all?
Or do you use trying as justification of why you haven't fully committed yourself and achieving your goals?
A few years ago my coach at the time called me out for receptively using the word but not understanding why I wasn't seeing the results I so badly wanted. She basically told me I was always trying, but in reality I was really doing nothing. I was choosing to stay stuck in my safe and comfortable place and was justifying my lack of action because I was ‘trying’.
But was I really trying? Honestly, no. I was only giving it 50% (maybe) of my effort because taking big, bold, brave action was really scary to me. It was easier for me to tell her I was trying because I didn't want to fail or be judged, but I was failing because I wasn't actually doing.
She told me to remove the word trying from my vocabulary all together and either say I will do or will not do. It was about consciously switching my language to help empower me to make a decision, to take control of my life and stop hoping I would just magically reach my goal because I was trying.
My eyes really opened in that moment because I realized trying meant dabbling which meant no results.
Trying is the gray area.
The area where we take a big, bold and brave step forward and then immediately take a cafe and comfortable step backwards.
Basically, trying is the equivalent of a participation trophy.
So next time you use the word trying, ask yourself:
Are you 100% giving it your all or are you dabbling and staying safe?
How is the word trying holding you back from taking action to reach your health and wellness goals?
Are you going to empower yourself to take control and choose action or chose no action? The important thing is to feel empowered to make the decision AND make a decision.
Now remove the word trying from your vocabulary and do!
