Fall Scented Non-Toxic Candles for the Home
Let me start by saying, I love seasonal scented candles. I’m talking about LOVE! My favorite, of course, are fall and holiday scented candles, but you can find burning candles year round. I am also known in my family as the candle lover, that even my mom commented one time when she came over and I didn’t have a candle burning!
I used to buy all my candles at Bath and Body Works, but one time I purchased a wood burning wick candle and the burn was super different. It didn’t burn black or create a sooty residue like B&BW candles do. So I started to educate myself around candles and how I could switch over to non-toxic candles. I learned the following…
Wicks: Make sure your wicks are not made with metal. Sometimes the metal is still woven into the wick and you will know because it will burn black and create residue on the jar. Look for 100% cotton or natural wood wicks.
Wax: Waxes can be filled with chemicals and release into the air when burned. Look for soy or coconut wax and beeswax candles. You can even go one step further and look for sustainably sources and eco-friendly waxes as well. Make sure it says 100% soy or coconut so it doesn’t have extra chemicals like paraffin and petroleum waxes.
Fragrance: Look for candles made with 100% natural essential oils. Also look for phthalate-free to be on the label.
Don’t worry, I did the heavy lifting. Here are my favorite fall scented non-toxic candles for you home!
Mrs. Meyer’s Acorn Spice Candle: Smells nutty, spicy, and cinnamon forward. It is lead free, made cruelty free and made with soy, and vegetable wax. There is some paraffin wax, but not much, and it’s a great lower cost option (available at Target) to start your non-toxic candle journey.
Sweater Weather by Sweet Water Decor: Smells warm spice, citrus and notes of woods, this candle is lead free (cotton wick), 100% soy wax, gluten free, phthalate free, non-toxic, cruelty free and made in the USA. I love this candle - sweater weather is one of my personal favorites!
Worn Leather and Smoke by Paddywax. This is a new to me candle company. I was out shopping this past weekend and smelled this candle and fell in love. Columbus friends, it was a Vernacular in Worthington! It smells incredible - woodsy, hints of clove and leather. Just a lovely warm, fall smell. The wicks are 100% cotton and are made with clean burning soy wax. Oh and this candle is made in Nashville.
Spiced Pumpkin Soy Candle by P.F. Candle Co. Smells of pumpkin and spice. It is a super warm and cozy candle and perfect for the fall. It’s 100% soy wax, so paraben and phthalate free, cruelty free and clean burning with a cotton wick.
Baltic Amber by Voluspa. This is another one of my favorite candles and will actually burn it all year long. I love the Voluspa brand. The Baltic Amber and Mokara are two scents I could not recommend enough! Baltic Amber smells like woods and cedar. The candles are coconut wax and paraben and phthalate free, cruelty free and clean burning with natural wicks.
Pumpkin Spice Latte by Voluspa. Voluspa knocked it out the park with the Pumpkin Spice Latte seasonal candle. Smelled this one at Anthropologie and so good.
Autumn Wood Soy Candle. Found this on Etsy and was excited to see non-toxic candles on Etsy. It is 100% soy wax and made with 100% cotton wicks. A great lower cost option!
Apple Cider by The Little Market. A coconut-soy wax blend with a 100% cotton wick, this candle is vegan, cruelty free and phthalate-free. This candle is made in the US by refugee women. Each candle is hand poured in recycled glass. I love The Little Market and deeply believe in their mission to help women become economically self-sufficient through the products these women help make and sell on The Little Market.
Enjoy!
