Our Southern Inspired Three Seasons Porch
Two years ago my husband and I bought our first home. As luck would have it, we fell in love with a hundred year old colonial inspired home that had great bones but needed some (okay a lot) of love and updating. At some point, we are planning full renovation (your girl wants her dream kitchen/entertaining space), but in the meantime, we identified a few smaller projects we could tackle without spending too much money to help make this house into our home.
Being a fan of a traditional east coast look and feel, you could say the colonial vibes of this house are perfect for me to execute my vision. I’m also determined to bring in some old southern charm because Charleston SC is my favorite city with amazing design and architecture history.
First on the list was our three seasons porch room. I wanted to start with this room because I could easily do all the work on my own - demo, painting, design. My whole focus was making sure I got the traditional southern blue ceiling the perfect shade of porch blue, so I started with finding some southern porch inspiration. You can read about my inspiration here.
I determined the key decor elements I wanted to include in the porch to get that southern feel, and this was what I came up with:
Southern blue ceiling
Rocking chairs
Lanterns
Wicker accents
Soft blue and white hues
Greenery
Warmth and calm
So in the course of a weekend, I was able to go from this outdated room (the photo editing from the listing photo makes it look better than the reality):
To a beautiful southern inspired porch of my own:
The updates we made were super simple, but made such a huge impact to the room. We ended up making the following changes:
Tore up the old blue carpet
Removed the old dusty blinds
Took out all the random hooks and patched all holes
Put up crown molding
Replaced the old brown fan to a new white one
Painted all the walls and ceiling
Resealed the floor
Washed the windows
Added in the porch set and decor elements
The paint colors we chose were:
Valspar alabaster white
Valspar tropical mist
All in all, we are super happy with the outcome and love our wine nights on our southern porch.
